Portal crane applications are: loading and unloading at port, material handling at dockyard, ship building and repairing yard, metallurgy industry. They mainly indclude lifting mechanism, luffing mechanism, slewing mechanism, travelling mechanism, spreader device(grab, container, hook), electrical equipment and other aiding devices for safety. The applied rigid rack and screw lever luffing mechanism make sure a constant working state.
Four-link portal crane
Four-link portal crane has been extensively applied to loading and unloading at port and materiel handing at dockyard and metallurgy industry, the mainstructures are composedof steel frame, lifting mechanism, luffing mechanism, slewing mechanism, traveling mechanism, spreader device (grab, container spreader, and hook and electric dist), electrical equipment
and other accessory equipments for safety.
Single-link portal crane
Single-link portal crane is a kind of hoisting machine especially used inport, harbour, dock, shipyard with small investment for loading and unloading front apron container, sundries and bulk cargo. It mainly includes the following units: crane strong steel frame, lifting mechanism, luffing mechanism, slewing mechanism, traveling mechanism.
Main Components of Portal Cranes:
Portal cranes consist of several key components, each designed to perform a specific function:
Portal Frame: The portal frame is the primary supporting structure of the crane, consisting of two vertical columns (legs) connected at the top by a horizontal beam (gantry). This frame provides the stability and strength required to support the loads being handled by the crane.
Trolley: The trolley is a wheeled carriage that moves along the horizontal gantry beam. It houses the hoisting mechanism and is responsible for lateral movement of the load.
Hoist: The hoist is the mechanism used to lift and lower the cargo. It typically consists of a motor, gearbox, drum, wire ropes, and a hook or other lifting attachment.
Boom: Some portal cranes are equipped with a boom, which is a long, pivoting arm that extends outward from the gantry. The boom can be raised or lowered to adjust the reach and height of the crane.
Operator's Cabin: The operator's cabin is where the crane operator controls the movement and operation of the portal crane. It is typically located on the gantry, providing the operator with a clear view of the working area.
Applications of Portal Cranes:
Portal cranes are used in various maritime settings, including:
Port Terminals: Portal cranes are commonly found at container terminals, where they are used to load and unload container ships quickly and efficiently. They are designed to handle the large, standardized shipping containers that are the backbone of modern international trade.
Bulk Cargo Handling: Some portal cranes are designed to handle bulk cargo, such as coal, grain, or mineral ores. These cranes are typically equipped with specialized grabbing devices to efficiently load and unload these materials.
Heavy Lift Operations: Some portal cranes are designed for heavy lift operations, where they can lift oversized and heavy cargoes, such as large machinery, transformers, or even entire ship sections. These cranes require additional structural reinforcement and more powerful hoisting equipment to handle the increased load capacity.
